I missed the Iceland – Argentina group D match but watched the highlights. The game ended 1-1, thats as good a win for Iceland who were the underdogs and could be said to be the expected whooping boy of the group.
The lesson here is however not for Iceland nor for Argentina that paraded so many stars but for those who have consistently insisted that Messi was the world best and not Rolando.

It took a while for Ronaldo to be recognised as the world best in soccer whilst Messi whose whole experience and play has been in one team and one league being consistently adjudged the better player ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo who has played across different clubs in different countries.
Its a travesty to put Messi ahead of Ronaldo in any award by metrics aside one that counts the number of goals, once it has to do with performance then its clear as daylight that Ronaldo deserves to be ahead of Messi.
Nothing proves this more than what happened yesterday 15th of June 2018 versus what happened today 16th of June 2018 in the ongoing Fifa men’s worldcup in Russia.
Portugal was one goal down against Spain yesterday, a game Portugal took the lead on with a converted penalty by Cristiano Ronaldo, a lead they eventually lost that saw them trailing by a goal as the game wound to a close. It seemed as if Spain who were stronger and feisty would hold on to the. 3 – 2 lead and clinch the 3 points.
Rolando had put Portugal ahead in the 4th minute via penalty, Spain replied through Costa in the 24th minute. Ronaldo increased the tally in the 44th minute again just before half-time ensuring his team went to the locker room ahead in goals. Costa came back from the locker room fired up and levelled the score in the 55th minute with Nacho firmly putting Spain ahead in the 58th minute.
The pressure on Portugal became intense for the next 30 minutes, 2 minutes to the end of regulation time and a freekick opportunity came the way of Portugal just yards into the 18.
Spain organized their wall and Ronaldo took up his position, the camera showed the fire in his eyes as he psyched himself with eyes locked ahead,… one, two and poof! He let loose the signature kick, the ball sailed, went round the obstacle of human bodies, curved as if it was a drone about to go out of play but decided to obey the law of parabola also defying that of mathematics and….wham! Today however, against a less experienced team, not only did Messi fail to score, when the time came for him to step up for his country and get a win for Argentina via a penalty, Messi lost the penalty in the 64th minute and could not find the back of the net till the end of the game, ensuring a draw for Iceland, a draw that is a win!
I know that the people I am talking about will still insist that Messi is a better player despite these compelling and indisputable facts, one of which they still directly observed today.
This is how the world end up in needless arguments, people deliberately ignore the truth and create their alternative version, that is why a president who is surrounded by indicted criminals (with long standing cases of fraud both in courts and at various investigative stages) will be labelled as having integrity. A president who reinstated a wanted thief into the civil service, promoted same thief and later lied about his part in it and the fact that he knew about, is still said to be a man of integrity. How can a man of integrity lie and always be seen working with thieves and working for thieves?
How can a man of integrity always involved in scandals of contracts signed in darrkness? $25bn NNPC crude lifting term contract signed when he was officially not empowered to!
They will argue still despite all these metrics that are not disputable that Messi is better than Ronaldo, be wary of such people and don’t let them paint you the lie that buhari means well when he watches as Nigerians are killed but chooses to protect cows and killer fulani herdsmen, note that another 50 human beings died in Zamfara this week, stop making excuses and face the data.
