At least 92 people are reported dead in the twin bomb blast that rocked Kano central mosque earlier today, over 120 reported injured. These figures were given by one of the rescue officials on scene according to AFP. Both figures are expected to climb higher as recovery and rescue operations continue.
The Blasts were followed by staccato of gun fire with initial report assuming the police opened fire to scare the attackers away but has now been confirmed the attackers were the ones firing mowing down people as they ran from the explosions.
It has however been confirmed that the Emir of Kano was not in the mosque as at the time of the incident, traditionally he leads the Friday prayers but was in Paris having traveled earlier this week. No group is yet to claim responsibility but Boko Haram is suspected of being the mastermind as the Emir recently called for arms against the group in a sermon in the bombed mosque.
